Fabrice came all the way from the South of France. To help translate, he brought with him his lovely sister. His keratoconus was somewhat advanced, but Laserfit rose to the occasion and provided him with excellent quality of vision and great comfort.
The beauty of Laserfit is how well-adapted it is for telemedicine. We work extremely well with other ophthalmologists and optometrists. Now when Fabrice has a change in vision, he goes to see his local ophthalmologist who checks the fit, and also takes a wavefront scan and sends me the files. From the files we create an updated prescription which we send back to France. We have done this twice now with great success and improved vision each time.
I’ll let Fabrice tell his own story:
Laserfit® feedback letter from Fabrice
I live in the south of France and I have keratoconus since I was 15 years old.
I started with glasses but they soon became unbearable. So I tried to fit rigid lenses (RGP) for keratoconus. Correction was quite good but I could not tolerate them because of my dry eyes. Over the years I tried different lens type and contactologists without results.
Finally, I abandoned and stayed without correction several years. The truth is that a keratoconus not corrected has the potential to spoil your life not only because of bad vision, but also because the kind of bad vision (multiple aberrations) causes headaches, permanent muscle tension in the eyes and neck.
In the last few years my vision has slightly deteriorated further and it became very hard to stay without correction. In France I was proposed corneal rings but results are unclear and very often lenses remains necessary. So I started my own research on english websites and I discovered Dr Gemoules laserfit website. Detailed explanations convinced me that theses customized scleral lenses were worth the trip. Moreover the fitting was possible in 2 weeks !
I did it in 2015 (38 years old) and I was not deceived. Even with dry eyes, comfort is amazing. No contact between the cornea and the lens. The lenses do not move and there is no risk of losing the lenses. On the right eye (better eye) all the aberrations were corrected. It mean that if you look the moon in the night you only see one moon. If you have keratoconus you understand what this mean. Achieve such a result mean these lenses are a mathematical marvel. On the left eye, with KC more advanced, correction was not complete but sufficient to have pleasant binocular vision. According to me the best solution with lenses for keratoconus.
Now I wear these lenses for a year and half and until now it allow me to avoid uncertain surgical options. I even updated my lenses from France by sending my aberrometer exam !
A great thank you to Dr. Gemoules for his work and attention.
