NO TRIAL LENSES – NO MESSY MOLDING PROCESS
PRECISE AND ACCURATE
THE LENSES FIT BETTER AND THE VISION IS INCREDIBLY BETTER.
IT’S A NO-BRAINER
The fitting process begins with a comprehensive eye examination, including the familiar objective and subjective refractions. Corneal mapping is performed using a topographer. A ray-tracing wavefront aberrometer provides a detailed analysis of the unique optical properties of the eye, including the higher order aberrations. Finally, a number of OCT scans (currently Visante OCT, Carl Zeiss) are obtained to provide a detailed map of the anterior eye and sclera for the purpose of designing a scleral lens(US patent 7,862,176 and other patents pending).
The OCT scans are assembled into an accurate 3D model of the anterior of the eye using very sophisticated computer-aided design software customized for our unique application. In this way, the lens is designed to follow the naturally asymmetrical shape of the eye to serve the following goals:
- Better physiological fit with less focal compression of eye tissues
- Improved comfort
- Improved centration of the optics
- Non-rotational lenses ideally suited to the use of highly complex individualized optics such as wavefront guided
With the lens assembled in the digital environment, the finished lens can be visualized in 3D where potential problems in fit or manufacturing can be readily detected and remedied beforehand. The order is then transmitted to the lab and the lenses are available the next business day via courier. Laserfit Vision and Dr. Gemoules have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Truform Optics and their state-of-the-art facility. Once on the eye, the lenses are evaluated using current clinical guidelines for an acceptable fit. Subsequent iterations are done as necessary until no additional improvements in comfort or vision are possible. The optics and method of lens design are proprietary and patent pending.
Because so many of our patients have traveled a considerable distance, we have designed our process to be as efficient as possible in order to minimize the time spent away from home. The majority of cases are completed within 5 business days.
